Be Kind Living is so excited to be featuring the SPCA of Westchester in our Do Something Kind section this month!
If a picture is worth 1000 words but this video from the SPCA Gala will leave you speechless. Our founder volunteers weekly at this shelter so you may have already seen some of these shelter residents on our instagram or facebook page.
We will be doing special pop-up events at the SPCA in November and December to help raise money for the SPCA. 10% of all profits at those events will be donated! Many of the pet companies that we work with also donate to their local shelters with every sale!
Look for the on pet product pages to see which companies are giving back to their communities and how your purchases can help a shelter pet!
Local to Westchester County, New York? There are so many volunteer opportunities available at the shelter from Junior Volunteers up to our Golden Outreach program. Volunteers are needed to help with caring for the animals as well as helping out in the office, spreading the word about adoption at special events and helping to educate children about the importance of kindness towards animals. Become a Foster Parent
The SPCA of Westchester has foster programs for kittens and puppies! These little guys are two young to be in the shelter environment either because they haven't had all of their vaccinations yet or need special care (like bottle feeding). They also have a great program for adult dogs having trouble in the shelter environment. Fosters can be anywhere from 1 week to 6 months depending on the situation. The most frequent foster opportunity is a puppy foster, as SPCA brings puppies up from high-kill shelters in the south and needs housing for them during the week between the transport and adoption event. For these puppy fosters, a crate, food and wee pad is provided by the shelter. To learn more about becoming a foster parent at the SPCA of Westchester click here.
The SPCA relies solely on donations to keep its doors open and to give the animals that are waiting for their forever homes the best possible care. They welcome general donations, or you can donate to one of their special programs. They include: Animal Sponsorship, Mend a Friend, Memory Donations, Planned Giving and the Equine Rescue Fund.
Not able to give a monetary donation? Click here to check out the shelter's wish list. Have a drive at your work or with friends and family for the holidays--especially for towels and blankets. People will be thrilled to have a reason to clean out their closets and it will help keep the animals warm and cozy through the winter!
The SPCA Human Education Program is helping to raise a kinder generation of kids who will learn to speak out for animals and for others who cannot speak for themselves. To have the SPCA visit your school or to donate to the Humane Education Program contact Alice@SPCA914.com.
There are lots of fun ways that kids can help animals including celebrating their Birthday at the SPCA and attending Camp Critter! Both programs benefit the shelter, teach kids about kindness towards animals as well as caring for them and include fun interactive activities.
